In China, circus performers – even world champions – are hung out to dry in their mid-twenties. Constanza Macras of Dorky Park brings together Chinese acrobats and musicians with two members of her own dance ensemble to explore the precarious existence of these retired performers, comparing them to the “hungry ghosts” – restless or miserable spirits – of Chinese mythology. In Macras’ typically vibrant style, the piece incorporates movement, text and live music.
