Berlin-based designer Frida Weyer is one of the city’s young designers to watch. Her eponymous brand may only be a couple of years old, but its trademark femininity – classic cuts and soft fabrics – is something not often seen in Berlin and is turning heads in the fashion press. What are your favourite clothes shops in Berlin?
We have a lot of cool concept stores, such as Departmentstore Quartier 206, The Corner, F95, Voo Store, Andreas Murkudis.
Do you have a signature item you always wear or style you always adhere to?
My dog Pablo is my signature item.
Who is your style icon?
What is your most recent purchase?
White canvas cotton sneakers.
What, if anything, defines the Berliner Frau?
24/7 looks, laid-back and fashionable at the same time.
What do you enjoy the most about Fashion Week?
I love the energy! It's like being drunk for a whole week. And in summer, that's even more fun when everybody is on the street. I called my collection ‘City Fever’ – that's the best way to express this state of mind.
What trend will be big for spring/summer 2012?
I think that after the trends of block colours and nude tones, ‘colour shock’ prints will be a follow-up trend.
So are we to expect lots of prints from your spring/summer 2012 collection?
Yes, my whole collection is based on prints. I produced my own fabrics with abstract patterns from different kinds of exotic wood structures. I wanted to try something new – that's a big challenge.
What is the best bit of backstage gossip you have ever heard?
I was thrilled when I was backstage at my first show and heard that revered fashion journalist Suzy Menkes had turned up. That was my personal backstage gossip highlight!
