Actually,

I loved Laternenfest as a kid, even though my hands got awfully cold and frozen. You could walk around in the darkness and sing and carry a little flickering light, and you got a St-Martin-Shaped bun, so what's not to like?
It's not Muslims who complained, either, it's a minority of the Linke, who, I'm sure, are not Muslim at all. It's just anti-Church, if you ask me, and pretty pointless.

To Kindergarten TEachers everywhere - please don't ban Laternenfest, don't listen to the LInke, but make sure your kids have really. good. mittens when they do the Umzug.

Autumn holidays

I don't particularly like any of the stuff we have to do in Autumn/Early Winter. It feels like people think: this is the last time we can be outside, do let's BE OUTSIDE while we can. Laterne, Hallowe'en and even Guy Fawkes are all pretty cold. I like Guy Fawkes the best, being British, but I can get pretty cold.

I think anybody wanting to ban Laterne is all pure fantasy though. Like, 150% fantasy

Guy Fawkes

is amazing, there's nothing more fun as a kid than playing "burn the terrorist"

Let's be honest

Lenka and the conversations are fiction.
But at least you're getting good at what the germans call journalism: let imaginary people talk and make your point, then take it from there.

Bacon...

There's no proper bacon in Germany, and you know it!

I'm a vegetarian now so all academic BUT

I like German bacon how I like Berlin Indian. You have to forget that it could be different you have to forget how it could be. Then it's yummy yummy.

renaming

er, wasn't changing Sankt Martins to "Laternenfest" already a case of anti-religious PC renaming? Or maybe it was the communists? You must know this, Amok.

What coz I am such a commie?

At Rico's Eastie Kita, no word of a lie, the Erzieher dint know about the cloak thing. I was like: why are we doing this? They were like: it is Brauch. Then I went home and googled it and found out about the St Martin dude.

Actually

I don't think the term Laterne is anti-religious but I have noticed discussing the whole thing that more Easties know it than like ppl in West Germany so it might've been changed during the Cold War....but it's not a specifically anti-Christian thing, it's just like sometimes you say Christmas and sometimes you say Chrimbo, I think
