Also, did you notice that the pitch invasion happened just as Düsseldorf missed a golden chance to seal it? If that had gone in it would've exactly matched the situation at the end of the 1966 final. The commentator could then have said, "Es sind Leute auf dem Spielfeld ... sie denken, es ist vorbei ... jetzt ist es so!!" That would've been amazing.

Great post. I thought the press reaction to this has been scandalous fearmongering. As was the TV coverage on ARD. The commentator nearly had kittens in a fit of sheer moral outrage, and the way pundit Mehmet Scholl was going on you'd've thought someone had died. He said he was "genuinely scared" to be there. As if. Is it true that the media literally can't tell the difference between a mad eruption of joy and actual violence? Also, I only tuned in midway through the second half, and so missed three of the goals - and they didn't even show them again or do any analysis! They just whined a little bit like they'd never seen a pitch invasion before. I mean, relegation play-offs are all about pitch invasions! Your point that no-one will remember the game itself is therefore literally true in my case.
