Constantin Mawrodiew of design network feinkost, Berlin (DAZ)
What: A bold proposal to revive the tradition of public swimming in the Spree.
Description: A collection of low-rise housing blocks on the river banks and public bathing structures floating in the river that actually clean the dreck from the water.
Why: From the 18th to the early 20th century, the Spree was lined with public swimming spots, but modern sewer drains dump rainwater into the river leaving it too dirty. Designer Mawrodiew says 21st-century know-how can return the river to its pristine, swim-able state.
Why not: Mawrodiew admits we'd need a lot of these filtering devices to make the Spree safe for bathers.
