Directed by Marian Quinn (Ireland, Germany 2007) with Aidan Quinn, Ailish McCarthy, Sophie Jo Watson.
The Irish actress Marian Quinn makes her directing debut with this charming coming-of-age tale set in late-1970s Dublin. Unlike many others of its kind, this film actually manages to evoke the spirit of pre-teen girls as they discover the joys and frustrations of finding an identity in that critical period when they are no longer young, but not yet old enough to be taken seriously. The story's beauty lies in its simplicity. Quinn is as unpretentious as she is professional, portraying a series of recognizable situations that are bound to make viewers smile and sigh at the resurrection of childhood memories. This nostalgic quality is enhanced by her choice of a technologically unpolluted decade when teens danced to rock ‘n’ roll and hung out at the local pizza place. The film also features Quinn's brother Aidan as a simple-minded and very caring family man who must deal with issues ranging from minor drug use and menstruation to finding the right bra./DH Starts June 25
