The only thing stopping this prime piece of mega-bollock real estate from achieving the exalted fifth star is its insistence on catering to the business market. By the vagaries of the German hotel classification system, hotels that target the corporate customer this specifically can't really be ‘luxury'. It has a point, really. But still, anything you'll find in a standard Adlon room will also be here, and it will probably be a little newer, seeing as this hotel is opened in 2005. And it'll be cheaper.

But for all its giant luxurious trappings - the grand 1920's marble lobby, the single largest hotel suite in Berlin (The Presidential measures 350 square metres!) - the lack of imagination endemic to international chains is evident. In fact, the elephantine size of the hotel makes everything a bit grotesque - there's something absurd about a conference hall with a capacity of 1,025 decorated with 1920s chandeliers. Still - you can't argue with the facilities - Business Centre, swimming pool, an excellent restaurant and a bar with live music.
