BRAND NEW!!! Exberliner’s film and chat series: Berlin films and the people who made them in a real Kiez Kino. We kick off with Dennis Karsten’s Mauerpark with English subtitles. Annabel Brady-Brown

Together with Lichtblick Kino, Prenzlauer Berg’s beloved 32-seat anti-plex, Exberliner launches EXBLICKS, a monthly program of films telling Berlin stories in English or with English subtitles, followed by director Q&A’s.

It begins with Dennis Karsten’s Mauerpark (2011, photo), a portrait of the tourist-pocked park and its visitors.

The film treads similar territory to last year’s Hasenheide, another notorious multikulti spot, though Karsten’s eclectic ensemble of birds, bongo drums, cleaners, ageing DJs and basketball nuts are pitted against the looming spectre of gentrification, rather than media misrepresentation.

EXBLICKS’ inaugural Monday event offers an intriguing look at a familiar space in one of Berlin’s last Kiez-Kinos, followed by a live discussion with the director.
