In this grim, pervasively grey world, 22-year-old Zoe, a decommissioned doctor, has applied for emigration to China as a chambermaid. Getting out or staying put to fight the system is the age-old choice set up in Aleksandra Kumorek’s Die Überflüssigen (read our interview with Kumorek).
Instead of ranting about the apocalypse, Kumorek’s vision is one of steadfast desperation. She’ll be present at the EXBlicks screening (subtitled in English and in cooperation with realeyz.tv) to take questions afterwards on her unusual approach to this most German of end-game scenarios.
