Do you like this?

After the huge success of the EXBlicks launch last month, you definitely want to show up early for our screening of Achterbahn, the story of Spreepark, and a Q&A with the director on Oct 24. Annabel Brady-Brown

After the inaugural event saw a packed Lichtblick turn away tides of burgeoning Berlinophiles, EXBlicks continues its monthly Monday night programme of films telling Berlin stories in English or with English subtitles – and jumps the fence.

Many have braved the guards and dogs to trespass onto Spreepark, the 1969-opened GDR amusement park that is now an abandoned, metal jungle, but how many know the crazy story behind the rotting rollercoasters?

Achterbahn (photo) is the tale of Norbert Witte, a man bankrupted by his dream, fleeing debtors to Peru, entangling himself and his family within the drug trade and, ultimately, jail. To top it off, there will be a Q&A with director Peter Dörfler after the film, and a special readers’ catch-up offer to see it on realeyz.tv, for those who missed the big-screen event.
