Haven't seen a single Alfred Hitchcock film yet? Check out his earlier silent classics on the big screen. Änne Troester

There really seem to be people who haven’t seen Hitchcock’s films in a cinema. And there are definitely people who haven’t seen his pre-Hollywood work, like the very entertaining silent film The Lodger (photo), featuring the early superstar Ivor Novello, which attained a new prominence when it was mentioned with delicious dismissiveness by Maggie Smith in Gosford Park. From Blackmail to Murder and Sabotage, Hitchcock went through the whole list of criminal activity before dealing with the more emotional side of human nature in Shadow of a Doubt and Stage Fright, and finally leaving Old Europe behind to scandalize the New World with films that always challenged psychological or visual preconceptions.
