Andrew Bujalski’s three films have come to represent the dispossessed, semi-articulate state of late Gen-Xers, following their half-hearted and belated search for what generally proves to be transient professional and emotional security.

As the founder and primary exponent of the low budget, low-fi, hand-held indie sub-genre known as ‘mumblecore’, Bujalski has been compared to Cassavetes and Leigh, working with non-professional actors and what feels like but often isn’t unscripted text.

Bujalski will be participating in a workshop at Arsenal from January 24-31, during which he will personally present and discuss his films: 2005’s Mutual Appreciation (Jan 24, 20:00), 2002’s Funny Ha Ha (Jan 26, 21:30) and 2009’s Beeswax (Jan 26, 21:30), with repeat showings of Mutual Appreciation on January 31 at 19:30 and of Funny Ha Ha on January 28 at 20:00. All films will be shown in English.

There will also be a workshop discussion on the subject of “Life’s Blurriness” in English, moderated by Nicolas Wackerbarth (Jan 27, 20:00).
