After a stint at a film school in Poland, Idziak's work took him to Germany, France and the US. He is most renowned for his Oscar-nominated work on Black Hawk Down, which paints war-torn Somalia in vivid yellow and green tones. Trois Couleurs: Bleu (1993) and The Year of the Quiet Sun (1984), two of his other famous projects, are being screened as well.
The festival also includes the more contemporary work of cameraman and director Marcin Koszałka. Koszałka is best known for Reverse, an unlikely love story between a Polish widow and an American soldier set in Warsaw in 1946; it won him an award at the Gdynia Film Festival. The documentaries All Day Together (2006), Such a Nice Boy I Gave Birth To (2000) and Existence (2007) complete the selection.
