Background Berlin’s “emerging art fair” was founded in 2005 by Tobias Kuttner (Gallery Kuttner Siebert), Kristian Jarmuschek (Gallery Jarmuschek & Partner), Ralf Schmitt (artist and creator of MyVisit.to) and Rüdiger Lange (Loop Raum für aktuelle Kunst). New this year The 2010 fair focuses on eastern European art, and hosts galleries from 19 countries (more than ever). Preview has moved out of Tempelhof’s main hall and back to its previous home: a hangar. Last year’s “no walls” concept has been dropped and the booths are back. A small collaborative project area remains as the only wall-free zone.
The vibe The ‘hipster’ of Berlin art fairs – choosy; focused on new developments and fresh approaches. It’s also more streamlined than the other fairs: galleries may only show one work per artist.
Rules of the game (Almost) invite-only: galleries can apply, but most exhibitors are hand-picked by the organizers and fair committee.
