Tucked away on a side street near the border of Prenzlauer Berg and Mitte, the T Room is deceptively large and, with its three rooms and downstairs exhibition space, feels more like a flat than a cafe.
It’s a really cosy mix of rustic and modern, with wooden floors and tables, comfy sofas, and large panels of co-owner Lisa’s photography on the walls. In the back, there’s a playroom with games - lovely as the days get colder. At the T Room, you can indulge in all manner of English delights: real homemade scones appropriately served with cream (not clotted, unfortunately) and jam (€3), and pots of black tea (excellent Darjeeling; from €2.60). Lisa and her partner Simon, from Amsterdam and London respectively, also make sandwiches (from €4.70) that are assembled before your eyes (excellent home-roasted beef, egg salad, marinated chicken, or build-your-own) and served with authentic English crisps. They also bake a selection of homemade cakes and sweet loafs that changes daily.
The goodies are elegantly exhibited in a glass case - chocolate cake, banana chocolate loaf, lemon cupcakes, flapjacks - and the tea is served in delicate Charles and Di commemorative porcelain. Try the High Tea (€15): it’s a multi-tier feast of sandwiches, scones and cakes, with all the tea you can drink. And come back for the special lunch combo (new this month) - soup, salad or a sandwich and a drink for €5.
