Do you like this?

This latest entry in a bizarre recent wave of cancer (not-sotragi-) comedies belongs to the Judd Apatow school. That means one moment you’ve got Rogen as the jocular buddy, cracking ‘good-humoured’ Patrick Swayze jokes to the cancer-stricken Gordon-Levitt, while the next you’ll have the latter alone, looking mournful to the sound of Radiohead, making sure you’re aware that cancer is, after all, quite serious. Will he beat the disease? Considering the film’s facile philosophy, it’s a 50/50 bet few would have a problem taking.

50/50 (50/50 – Freunde fürs (Über)leben) | Directed by Jonathan Levine (USA 2011) with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen. Starts May 3
