The concept is taken from television’s Heroes and Misfits – high schoolers mysteriously endowed with superpowers – while the style adopts the found footage gimmick of countless films before it. And yet, though the film is undeniably derivative, Trank does manage to infuse it with a certain originality, particularly in the way he uses the protagonists’ telekinesis to elevate the cinematography from shaky POV to weightless, omnipresent witness.
