Little Lucien Ginsburg (Eric Elmosnino), the shy son of Jewish-Russian immigrants in Nazi-occupied France, grows up to become the notorious philanderer and greatest chanteur of all time, Serge Gainsbourg. You don’t need to know anything about him to be completely enchanted by this visually stunning fairytale-in-biopic-disguise by Joann Sfar, a veteran comic-artist and first-time director who adapted the script from his own graphic novel. And even if Casta as Brigitte Bardot doesn’t work, it was worth the shot.
