Do you like this?

A critical success in France, La guerre est déclarée depicts the struggle of a couple in the face of ultimate adversity: their son's cancer. The real-life mother wrote, directed and acted in the movie and even got her ex (the kid's father) on board. The result is undeniably original, although too self-consciously so for it's own good: "rock 'n' roll kid-cancer indie flick, 100 percent free of sappy Hollywood clichés" is very cool, but the demonstration feels a bt contrived. Ultimately, we found it hard to really care for those nice-looking but unappealing Parisian über-bobos and their daily woes.
