Do you like this?

Madagascar 3’s main objective is to entertain – you don’t have to see the previous films to follow the trans-continental caper. The target audience (children) renders the humour somewhat slapstick, with the exception of parodies of The Matrix, Edith Piaf and Star Trek. The film is in 3D, although it’s not quite clear why, and the frantic tones of Stiller and Rock are always good for a laugh. Watching the film in a dark cinema allows you to do so covertly.

Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted | Directed by Tom McGrath, Conrad Vernon (USA 2012), animation, with Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith, Chris Rock. Starts October 2
