A decade after American Pie, LOL revisits your average feelgood teen angst, brought ever so slightly up to date via Facebook jargon, ubiquitous mobile devices – and the addition of a temporarily fraught but basically way okay mother-daughter plotline. Azuelos made this film as a French production in 2009, so this 2012 US version obviously pays homage to its French predecessor in the form of a class trip to Paris, city of love. Cyrus’ performance (and hair) are the only creatively loose things about this movie. The rest is just too damn tidy. :-(
