Do you like this?

Astronomers looking at stars whose light reaches us only after millennia, an archeologist showing prehistoric rock carvings, and women who dig for the bones of their loved one who disappeared during Pinochet’s reign of terror: all of them are only a rock’s throw away from one another in Chile’s Atacama Desert. Patricio Guzmán treads carefully and his hesitant voice draws conclusions that are sometimes too simple, but his film is irresistibly dignified.

Nostalgia de la Luz | Directed by Patricio Guzmán (Chile et al, 2010). Documentary in Spanish. Opens December 23.
