Do you like this?

Fisherman Syracuse is unlucky until one day his net holds a quite surprising catch – a girl. Suddenly, he’s touched by so much good fortune that his daughter begins to believe the mysterious girl, Ondine, is actually a “selkie”: a girl from the sea. Although the ending doesn’t fully follow through, there’s an irresistible sweetness to this charming Irish film about fairytales and second chances.

ONDINE | Directed by Neil Jordan (Ireland 2009) with Colin Farrell and Alicja Bachleda-Curus. Starts October 21.
