Do you like this?

For what must have been a year, the posters teased "Who Is Salt?", and halfway through Noyce’s (The Quiet American) Cold-War-themed espionage thriller, you’re still not sure. But by God, she is something to look at!

Sexy and inscrutable, Jolie impresses not so much with her acting as her mere presence. In the unfolding game of cat-and-mouse jump-and-run (and kick-and-shoot), you find yourself rooting for her, even though she may well be a cold-blooded Russian superspy programmed to destroy the western world from within.

Rock solid - if strangely anachronistic - action entertainment.

SALT | Directed by Phillip Noyce (USA 2010) with Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber. Opens in Berlin cinemas on August 19.
