Do you like this?

Luckily, this project landed with Ricky Gervais and not, say, Jim Carrey. In a world in which no one ever lies, God doesn’t exist (think about why, for a moment…) and retirement communities are called “A Sad Place for Hopeless Old People”.

Gervais has obvious fun creating this rather dull world, and even though the film flounders about a bit at the end, it’s still extremely original.

THE INVENTION OF LYING | Directed by Ricky Gervais, Matthew Robinson (USA 2009) with Ricky Gervais, Jennifer Garner. Opens in Berlin cinemas July 8.
