Gallery Weekend

Celebrating a decade of existence, this year's 72-hour, city-wide orgy of consecutive art parties and exhibition vernissages is bursting at the seams, with many unofficial events joining in. Overdose on the Berlin art scene May 2-4, all for free!

Gallery Weekend celebrates its first decade of existence with this year’s 72-hour, city-wide orgy of consecutive art parties and exhibition vernissages.

For every one of the 50 officially participating galleries, bargain for another three unofficial freeloader galleries to host events nearby, resulting in an inharnessable smorgasbord of hundreds of events that attract more and more visitors each year.

Sure, some of the participating exhibitions are on view anyway during the weeks prior or post. However, the weekend festival features special talks and parties, like a brunch at Berlinische Galerie on Saturday morning and a discussion later that day at Me Collectors Room with salient Italian art collector Patrizia Sandretto.

Our personal favourite for the weekend is the Blackmarket show happening May 2-3 at L17 (Lehrter Str. 17, Moabit), featuring over 64 artists including Römer + Römer (photo).

If ever there was a time to binge on arty-farty schmooze cake, it’s now. Did we mention the entire weekend is free?
