Our new series Female Directors in Germany kicks off with four films from feminist Berliner Tatjana Turanskyj. Starting with 2010's Eine flexible Frau (Drifter), the series continues through Nov 29.
Opening film: The Drifter
40-year old Greta, mother of a 12-year old son, separated from her husband, is an unemployed architect in Berlin. After starting and soon losing a job in a call center, she begins to drift through the ‘New’ Berlin invaded by neo-liberalist building projects. Using a loose episodic structure and anti-naturalist performances, the film is a witty, yet also angry portrait of a woman torn between the pressure to adapt and resisting against it.
