Me and Orson Welles
Richard Linklater, the king of slack, delivers a decidedly un-slack period piece that surprisingly manages to make Efron palatable. (He is still the most obnoxious thing about the film, but is watchable, at least.)
The real treasure here is McKay’s portrayal of Orson Welles – a terrible genius we can both easily loathe and acknowledge as beyond most of us. And that’s just how Welles should be portrayed.
ME AND ORSON WELLES | Directed by Richard Linklater (USA 2008) with Zac Efron, Claire Danes, Christian McKay. Opens in Berlin cinemas on August 26.
