Until very recently BAK actually stood for Berlin Ankaraspor due to a commercial tie in with the Turkish club, but the arrangement was binned last year, leaving them to revert back to the original usage of it, Berlin Athletik Club.
The upstarts of the Berlin football scene, this last year has seen a massive growth in interest in BAK, partly due to the previous seasons winning of the Berliner Pilsner Pokal (when they beat Dynamo in a bad tempered final) and their subsequent appearance in the DFB Pokal last year where they were close to knocking out the Bundesliga’s surprise package of the year, Mainz.
Attendances at the Poststadion have doubled and they won promotion to the Regionalliga Nord for the first time last season. With a mixture of old heads and fresh faces they hope to stay there for the reforms at the end of this season
