With no financial support coming from the city to help with the crucial rebuilding of their spiritual home, the fans of Eisern (literally, “iron”) Union raised what money they could and then in their hundreds picked up tools and completely rebuilt a modern, though throwback, stadium themselves.
As an unfancied bit-part team in the GDR they were used to being the black sheep in the city, but now one that is starting to punch its weight higher up the ladder. In their third season back in the second division, the goal has now reflcted their new confidence, and they are hoping for a top ten finish this year, so the new main stand can be built to finish off the stadium.
