A pint-sized north Italian restaurant that spills out onto Herrfurthplatz on sunny days, Pecora Nera serves aperitivo between 6-7pm. Have an Aperol or Campari Spritz (€2.50) and a selection of mini-sandwiches (€0.50 each), or spring for a glass of Venetian wine and a platter of various meats and cheeses.

Run by leftist Italians for leftist Italians (meaning no shortage of tattoos, piercings and rat-tails), this tiny Neukölln bar features a killer all-you-can-eat buffet (€7) on Friday nights, accompanied by DJs and the occasional live act. Order your Negroni (€3.50) from the inked-up bartendress with the massively generous pour.
Kienitzer Str. 22, Neukölln, U-Bhf Karl-Marx-Str., Tue-Thu, Sun 10- 24, Fri-Sat 10-4
On summer days between 6-10pm, a motley collection of Italians, Reuterkiez locals and dogs congregate on the sidewalk outside this Italo disco-flavoured bar-café, venturing inside only to order a drink (soda €3.20, wine or spritz €4.20, nicer wine €5.20) and load their plates with bread, spreads and salads from the countertop buffet. It’s technically not supposed to be dinner, but we won’t tell if you go back for thirds…
Pannierstr. 12, Neukölln, U-Bhf Hermannplatz, daily from 9:30
Possibly the only good reason to show your face on Simon-Dach-Straße is Place Clichy, a cosy French bar where locals and tourists relax à la française with a glass of pastis (€2.50), Char- treuse or wine and an all-French cheese plate (€5.50). Prenzlauer Bergers display similar joie de vivre over a Picon beer (€3) and the perfect cold hors d’oeuvre plate (French patés, rillettes and cheeses, €6-10) on a side street off Senefelderplatz.
