Part of the first wave of top-notch speciality coffee locales to shake up Berlin’s café scene in recent years, the cosy, niche-oriented Café CK boasts a wide selection of beans from across the world, changed continuously depending on season and availability to guarantee freshness and flavour.
The quality of the raw materials is matched by the level of expertise: CK holds several prestigious coffee awards, and all the staff are required to undergo a rigorous training period.
Though the focus is very much on the coffee, the menu includes a variety of freshly made sandwiches and breakfast options, the highlight being the homemade baked goods – brownies, Kirschstreusel, banana bread, cheese and carrot cake – which serves as a delectable complement to the coffee.
In addition to the obligatory wifi and power outlets (how could one hope to pass as a true connoisseur without the glowing Apple credential?), the two light-filled rooms are also equipped with several board games and a remarkable well-stocked magazine rack featuring distinguished titles such as Deutsch and Feinschhmecker (not to mention Exberliner), making it the perfect spot to laze away an afternoon.
For those unwilling to trek it up to P’Berg, not to worry, the café opened a second location in Kreuzberg’s Voo fashion store on Oranienstraße, featuring a befittingly minimalist version of the original menu – no sandwiches and breakfast there, just coffee and cake.
