Nowadays it is hard to think of Tennis Borussia (TeBe for short, the name gives a glimpse at the multi-sport roots of most German football clubs) as former members of the Bundesliga but they were Berlin’s second club for a long time and have had some of the greats representing them over the years.
Now stuck down in the Berlin Liga with only their memories of Sepp Herberger there is still a proud club at the heart here and one that is trying gamely to reposition themselves in the 21st century as a rock and roll football club rooted in their tradition and community.
With relegation from the Regional Liga last year came the fear that the club would fold, but they have managed to stay alive, and the Veilchen have moved on. As Hertha’s true rivals in the city they must, surely, be back soon where they belong.
