An unmistakable smell greets you as you walk in. Roughly 100 different types of fresh and saltwater fish and other sea creatures can be found at the Berliner Fischmarkt – from the ubiquitous but delicious Baltic herring to more exotic species express-flown in from the Atlantic: tuna, red snapper, dorade or loup demer, crab or lobster. Founded by Michael Fleck, the huge warehouse has everything you need for a fantastic meal. Whether you’re looking to prepare sushi, paella, or just a good traditional dish of German Matjes (pickled herrings), you’ll find it here. Don’t miss the in-house smoked fish (10 varieties) and the delicatessen counter (homemade herring or crayfish salads, tasty pickle-and-herring rollmops, etc.).

Additional goodies like spices, sushi rice and sake, and a great choice of wines ensure that you’ll have all the important ingredients for your feast. The less fish-inclined can also find delicacies to enjoy, from a great selection of game products, which include salamis, hams, goulashes and the appropriate ‘game’ wine. Kids will love the fish-themed décor, with a pond filled with live fish, giant fiberglass lobsters and funky paintings on the walls, plus fishing nets draped about for that nautical feeling. Too lazy to cook? The connected Imbiss provides delicious meals and snacks for you to enjoy outdoors on the terrace in the spring sunshine.
