Tuesday 21, February
On Tuesday, there were 577 new Covid-19 infections reported in Berlin. The seven-day incidence currently stands at 63.1 cases per 100,000 people.
The €49 Deutschlandticket is already on sale!
Since Monday, the BVG has been accepting pre-orders for the long-awaited €49 ticket. Also known as the Deutschlandticket, it comes in as a replacement to the €9 ticket and Berlin’s current €29 version.
The Deutschlandticket, as the name suggests, lets riders travel throughout the whole country with all public transport (excluding the high-speed ICE trains). Valid for use from the 1st of May, the €49 replacement will mean we say goodbye to the €29 ticket (which only allows travel in Berlin’s A and B zones).
Everyone who already has a €29 ticket subscription should expect a letter in the post, or an email (digitalisierung at last!) letting them know that their current subscription will be automatically updated and that €49 (instead of €29) will be taken from their bank account as of the beginning of May – automatically making their ticket valid for German-wide travel.
If you’re not yet signed up, the Deutschlandticket is available online for pre-order (and, unlike Berlin’s €29 option, will be available in digital form). As of now, both the €29 and €49 options can be ordered at BVG customer centres, and from S-Bahn service stations. Keep an eye on our guide to the €29/€49 system here.
