Looking for Covid numbers? Changes in the test strategy means the incidence rate and daily case have less impact on the overall COVID-19 situation, so we’re no longer giving a daily report…. Don’t worry. It’s good news.
Dancing is banned in Berlin!? Doesn’t sound like such a Good Friday
Sometimes you forget what a Christian country Germany really is, but certain strange habits are there to remind you: the Sundays when all the shops close, the constant voting for the CDU, the large number of extra bank holidays enjoyed by the Catholics in the south and… a dancing ban this Friday?
It sounds weird, but it’s true: dance events are officially forbidden this Friday
It sounds weird, but it’s true: dance events are officially forbidden this Friday, and you aren’t allowed to put on musical events of any kind if they take place where drinks are served. And that’s not it: public sporting events are also banned if they come with music or other entertainment. But there is a “but”: the restriction only applies from 04:00 to 21:00 on Good Friday. So, if you’re planning to head to the club, you might not even notice.
The origin of the law comes from the origins of Easter itself. We’re celebrating the death (and on Monday, the rebirth) of Jesus Christ, so it isn’t really supposed to be a cheerful day. Good Friday isn’t the only day with a Tanzverbot either – it also applies to the day of national mourning (which will come on Sunday November 19, 2023) and again on the Sunday of the Dead (November 26, 2023).
