S-Bahn and Deutsche Bahn on strike: Expect major disruptions
“Significant disruption to S-Bahn traffic is expected,” wrote the S-Bahn Berlin on X. Officially, the strike is only set to start at 22:00 Wednesday evening, but Berliners should expect disruptions across S-Bahn and Deutsche Bahn trains to begin even earlier, as the system struggles to adapt.
From Wednesday November 15 at 22:00 to Thursday 16 at 18:00, the S-Bahn will not run. Deutsche Bahn also expects only to provide a limited part of its long-distance train system. The background of the strike is a dispute over wages between the drivers’ union GDL and Deutsche Bahn. In Berlin, the BVG will remain in service, albeit even more cramped and uncomfortable as it deals with he overflow from the other cancelled trains.
According to Deutsche Bahn, anyone with tickets to travel on the affected days can reuse their ticket – earlier or later – without an extra charge. If they would rather cancel their trip entirely, a full refund will be issued.
