Train lines blocked, streets flooded: Storm Lambert hits Berlin
Last night’s storm came with severe warnings, including hail, heavy rain and even the possibility of tornadoes. However, according to a fire department spokesperson, it looks like Berlin got off lightly.
There were other disruptions, Deutsche Bahn reported multiple temporary train line closures, with the Berlin to Hamburg line rerouted via Stendal. The fire department was deployed a total of 42 times, including being called to put out a roof fire in Kaulsdorf started by a lightning strike. A sewage system also flooded in Spandau, and the street was blocked in both directions.
For now, the storm seems to have passed and Berliners can expect nothing worse today than some lasting rain, while temperatures will range from 16 to 24 degrees.
