Monday 13, March
On Monday, there were 405 new Covid-19 infections reported in Berlin. The seven-day incidence currently stands at 66.5 cases per 100,000 people.
Almost all flights from BER cancelled by strike action
As of 3.30am this morning, security staff at Berlin’s BER airport are out on strike in an action that will last until midnight tonight. Anyone travelling from the airport today should expect major disruptions. Around 200 departures have been cancelled from the airport today, and only around one third of the 200 scheduled arrivals are expected to take place. The one day-warning strike was called by the Verdi trade union and is likely to affect around 27,000 passengers. Workers are demanding better conditions for when working at inconvenient times and the next round of negotiations is scheduled for March 27-29 in Potsdam. Today’s strike is the second protest action at the airport so far this year: in January, another warning strike paralysed air traffic at BER, disrupting the flights of around 35,000 travellers.
