From Schöneberg to Kreuzberg to Neukölln, moving around has been de riguer for queer hub Schwuz, now celebrating 40 years since the Homosexuellen Aktion Westberlin decided to bring LGBTQ life “Out of the toilets and into the streets!” A series of anniversary events kicks off with a 48 Hours Neukölln companion event featuring the usual rock, house and disco sets and even a Saalwette (audience bet – it’s ancient German TV history; Google it!). If 480 tarted-up Tunten manage to gather at the venue before 2am, all 48 staff members will blurt out some Helene Fischer abomination to raise money for the local retirement home – ironic, yet charitable.
