Andreas Kriegenburg directs Kafka and everything about it is, well, Kafkaesque: the set, a jumble of connected boxes like a tumbling tower of kid’s blocks; masked men in matching costumes; texts about the impossibility of action within mysterious worlds. Kriegenburg’s signature style has always been movement-heavy, so it makes sense to use this slapstick-inspired clowning to approach humorous and enigmatic collected texts from Kafka’s notebooks and other works. Presented with English surtitles.
