One of the first industrial acts to figure out that avant-garde negativity could work on the dance floor once a little punk was added, Belgium’s Front 242 briefly pointed toward the 1980s genre explosion, which would eventually lead to the indie kids embracing Giorgio Moroder as a step-cousin of Johnny Rotten’s. Of course, such a visually anonymous act could just send out two roadies and a sequencer and call it a Black Celebration.
