One of the greats from the third wave of bossa nova, plucked by Vinicius de Moraes and sponsored by Antônio Carlos Jobim, João Bosco, like his predecessor Jorge Ben Jor, has long diversified, and this 40th anniversary tour will be a mini-school in the last half-century of Brazilian music, from bossa to samba to tropicalia to MPB to that incredibly boring jazz-fusion stuff all of Brazil’s geniuses embraced for some reason in the early 1980s. Can’t win ‘em all, but with some artists you can hear ‘em all.
