The godfather of Ethio-Jazz, blending the traditional rhythms and instrumentation of Ethiopian music with jazz and Latin influences, multi-instrumentalist and composer Mulatu Astatke has created some of the most unique arrangements in contemporary music. His grooves have been used to soundtrack Jim Jarmusch’s Broken Flowers and sampled by countless rappers, but there’s nothing like seeing the (now 72-year-old) legend in person.
