Reaping the seeds planted by Paul Cezanne’s notion that “all depiction of nature can be reduced to three solids: cube, sphere and cone,” each of Luoma’s six artworks reconstruct (in two-dimensionality) the idea of the cube as a three-dimensional field, offering the eye lots of juicy colour blocking to bring sunlight and warmth into Berlin’s current cold, dark days. They might resemble drawings or paintings, but rather are photos, constructed with a calculated, analogue technique of exposing a single negative to lines of light up to hundreds and even thousands of times. Unbelievable.
