C/O brings us yet another hard hitter, Stephen Shore, who has dedicated his life’s work to making realistic everyday images. At the age of 14 he sold photographs to Edward Steichen, the famous photographer and MoMA curator, and just 10 years later Shore had a solo exhibition there, which was met with scathing reviews. But the groundbreaking artist went on to pave the way for colour photography and the consequential New Topographics movement, the impact of which is still palpable in everything from contemporary art to Instagram.
