Berlin-based choreographer Clément Layes studied first as a philosopher. In his most recent piece, TITLE, he thinks through our relationship with the material world. He constructs and deconstructs worlds of objects on stage at Sophiensaele – wood planks, tin cans, a toy car, a bottle of wine. Layes is spry and playful; the choreography childlike and almost clown-ish. It’s just a bunch of stuff, but TITLE spins narrative and emotions out of these objects, making us reconsider just how intertwined we are with stuff in our daily lives.
