Have you no respect for ancient sports? Have you no respect for the thousands of athletes in the world who do this sport? this is honestly the most technically difficult sport in track and field behind the pole vault. You think its as simple as getting be and tossing it? you are sadly mistaken and if i didn't know any better, I would say you are an ignorant and nescient fool. And his behavior was an act of self expression as a champion. Stop judging others and shut your fucking worthless mouth up.

I also, like, suspect that it's because I am a fat person who never really "gets" sport, so I just accept it in quite an indifferent, patronizing kind of way, but part of me also thinks, like, obviously when you're doing something so physical and then you win, finally win, then you're gonna go a bit caveman-mental. I mean, cavemen weren't dignified were they, they were always dancing around and groaning with joy when they finally got the mammoth.

Is it considered unsportsmanlike then? Do people think it's too hard on the people you've just beaten?

I quite like it actually. I also think they should be allowed to strip their shirts off in football.

Actually, I agree with Jacinta on this one. he looked like an idiot, but his celebration (apart from the hideously contrived and staged shirt ripping) seemed to be a simple and spontaneous eruption of joy at winning a thing he's worked bloody hard foor for the last four years. That he doesnt come across as a very personable guy is neither here nor there, reallly.

I still remember this one like it was yesterday (soorry quality is a bit rubbish), but is beautifully bonkers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlqCCDh9XT0

Why do people get so upset about sportspeople celebrating in an undignified fashion, though? It was the same when Bagoletteli (sp? the black Italian one) did his funny little pose after he scored that goal....I don't know, I think it's cute. I watched that Harting fella dancing about - my boyfriend said to me "That's the guy from the poster with the girl with pink hair" and I said, oh, how sweet. But maybe it's just coz I don't understand sport? So I don't think they should have to try and be dignified. They're not diplomats or politicians.

Nice post. His behaviour after his win was really quite undignified. An utter meathead. Not surprising for someone who has dedicated his entire life to throwing one single object as far as possible.
