
Every year some 100,000 foreigners become Germans (101,570 in 2010), the vast majority driven by economic or political factors.
But what about that minority who decide to become German without ‘having to’? What could motivate a British or French citizen to take on German nationality when they’re already happy EU passport holders? And what about those Americans and other First-Worlders willing to sacrifice their citizenship in favour of a German Ausweis?
