Save Berlin: Loving the bombs

Bomber Command Memorial

It's a little unfair to characterise the Bomber Command Memorial as a commemoration of the destruction of Berlin. The reason that such a memorial has not been opened until 67 years after the war is that "the Brits" are very uncomfortable about the civilian deaths caused by the bombing and have no wish to appear proud of it. The memorial is neither grandiose nor a temple but is human in scale and clearly dedicated to the sacrifices of the bomber crews, who would certainly rather not have been involved in the destruction of Berlin or anywhere else if they had been given a choice.
